DuckDuckDuck

5. January 2009

DuckDuckDuck has a few things going for it. The game goals are a little drab but the graphics, controls + interactivity, and audio are worth checking out. There are a bunch of little duckies floating around in a virtual pond and targets randomly appear around the pond that you're supposed to match up the ducks to. Twist and tilt your iPhone to get them to their targets, but don't act too fast or drastically as ducks you had previously landed will slip off of their targets. Make sure to swoosh your finger around in the water and toy with the settings to simulate different environments. RhinoBall

4. January 2009

RhinoBall is boring. It's free and and very obviously intended to promote Disney's Bolt! that was released in November, 2008. This review is way late as I'm sure the app has been out for a while now, but whatever. I saw Bolt! and the Hamster, "Rhino" is a cool character but the game is lame. If you ever played Sega's MonkeyBall the accelerometer controls are very similar (and equally as frustrating). You repeat what seems to be the same level over and over again. Alphabetic

The first word that comes to mind when I think about Alphabetic is original! Who knew the alphabet could be this much fun for an adult? Who knew there would be achievements later in life regarding the alphabet? The game plain-rocks. The alphabet is presented in all sorts of interesting animations and it's your job to pick the letters from A-Z in order as quickly as possible. You will have fun with this one! Sneezies - Bubble Popping Fun

2. January 2009

Sneezies is flippin' awesome! I haven't played a game this much since the Bejeweled 2 review a few days ago. I've wasted at least 3 hours on a practically no skills necessary game. There's something about the luck involved when you make it to the higher levels of Classic Mode (I'm not even sure what Challenge Mode holds yet). I'm currently at Level 27 of Class Mode, which has me going "grrrr" because I've tried at least 150 time to pass the level at this point. The goal of the game is to save as many "Sneezies" as you can by sprinkling some sneeze powder in the vicinity of a few of the little creatures and they react to the powder by sneezing, which pops the bubble they're trapped in and releases them and a puff of more sneeze powder which incites more sneezing by other Sneezies in the vicinity of the sneeze. It's one big (FUN!) sneeze-fest! The sound-effects are cute and the gameplay is pretty mindless, but very addictive. De Blob

1. January 2009

De Blob is a game I could not get into. Apparently it's pretty popular, but I was not able to figure out why. I suppose it may be the iPhone platform, or umm... whatever I won't make excuses for not liking it. Maybe you'll like it? From what I gathered in 10 or 15 minutes of gameplay is that you're the little blob-guy and it's your job to roll around and collect different colors then paint the landscape for points. The more you paint, the faster, the better off you are. It's a pretty fast-paced game. Meh. [ratings] [simpleviewer=50,500,382] Author Website: http://www.deblob.com/

Bejeweled 2

Bejeweled 2 is the gem (ha ha, get it?) of all puzzle games. Somehow in my love for puzzle games I managed to avoid the original Bejeweled. I noticed many great things being said about the game but the reviews I read were almost too good. I thought it best to avoid such a good game in the interest of not wasting my valuable time playing games. Who am I kidding? It's not like I didn't play 50 other games instead! Fast-forward to right now. As of this post I've had the game less than 24 hours and I've spent  a good amount of those hours playing Bejeweled 2. It's good, real good. Must... stop... typing... to play of course! [ratings] [simpleviewer=49,500,382] Author Website: http://www.popcap.com/promos/iphonebejeweled2/

Aki Mahjong

29. December 2008

Aki Mahjong is everything I would expect from a Mahjong game. The graphics are nice. The game runs smooth. The audio stands out and is definitely worth noting. I chose it initially for the value though. At the time of this writing the game was only 0.99 while most other Mahjong games were considerably more. The game's publisher, Ambrosia Software, does a very good job with their iPhone titles and I would recommend any that they produce. Space Deadbeef

26. December 2008

The Space Deadbeef App for the iPhone is a basic touch-and-fire game.  You'll use your left thumb to move your aircraft up and down out of harms way, and hold your thumb over your aircraft until your super-weapon is fully charged then slide your thumb to the right to unleash it.  Also, use your right thumb and tap the enemies and your aircraft will blast smart missiles at your target and chase it until it hits.  You can repeat the stages, and the game gets more difficult for an extra challenge.  You can also go into the options and slow the game down a little.  Have a ... blast.  <Bad joke, I know>.
