The SushiTime app is perfect for sushi-noobs like myself. I’m not sure how ninja-like I can browse on my iPhone and put photos to items named on a menu, but who cares, right? I save the wait staff’s time and possibly sound like I know what I want. It’s a win-win. Each item contains a photo and in most cases that is probably a good way to gauge whether you would like something or not. You can bookmark your favorite items for easy reference later on. I can see that coming in handy when I forget the name of something I enjoy chowing down on. I would have liked to see pronunciation covered for each item, so that was a slight bummer. I would still recommend the app though. Be sure to check out the gallery below.

The All Recipes App for the iPhone comes with thousands of top-rated recipes, complete with reviews and photos.  The App has a “Dinner Spinner” where you can select either none of the categories (Dish Type, Ingredients, Ready In (time to make) and shake your phone for suggestions, or lock in 1-3 of the categories for suggestions.  The App comes from the self-proclaimed world’s #1 food site.  When you find a recipe, it has an easy to understand breakdown of the recipe, including time-saving tips.  For those who don’t know how to cook, and have lit your house on fire trying to make pop-tarts or mac-n-cheese, get this app and spend some quality time with it.  For those a little more advanced in the kitchen, you can really challenge your skills with some new ideas.  I will be keeping this App, which means my wife will be keeping me.  Now that I’ve made myself hungry, time to go make…. (shaking my iPhone)… Pumpkin Loaf.  Fantastic, that’s exactly what I need.

For those of you unfamiliar with Wired.com - stop reading for a moment, open a new tab, go to www.wired.com, and go read up on the greatness.  How do you own a piece of technology like an iPhone and not know what Wired.com is?  Ok, back to business.  The Wired App for the iPhone - Love it, Love it, Love it.  Remember that Camcorder you bought in 1993 that cost you $950, had a 90-day warranty, broke on day 91, and cost $951 to fix?  Wired is here to keep that from happening again.  Imagine being at <insert random electronics store> and wondering what the professionals think about the item you’re about to plunk $500 down on.  Just open up your Wired App, choose one of the 12 pre-loaded categories, or choose search and hear from the best.  Now, next time you are making a sizable purchase, you can let your wife know that Wired has your back.  Say “thank you Wired” - Enjoy.

Brick and Mortar stores weren’t enough. QVC/HSN weren’t enough.  Telemarketers weren’t enough.  Shopping online on your computer wasn’t enough.    Now you can go broke via your iPhone with the Amazon Mobile App for your iPhone.  Let me tell you something, this App is scary-good.  I got the same search results on my Mac as I did on my iPhone.  I was able to start paying for a Christmas present in less than 45 seconds.  The App comes complete with reviews for each item (as you’d expect).  This one is a keeper for anyone that is constantly on the go.  Now you can make impulse buys, from the bathroom.  Truly a feat of Capitalism.

SnapTell Explorer is pretty neat, however I am having a tough time coming up with a decent description that doesn’t completely rip-off the actual application description in the iTunes App Store, so I am going to quote it here instead. Snap a picture of the cover of any Book, DVD, CD, or Video game and within seconds see a rating, description and links to Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDb, Ebay, Barnes & Noble and more. Use this app while shopping in a store to quickly find more information, compare prices, buy the product or leave a reminder to look at the product later.

Currently, items sold in the US are supported but we are adding support for international items soon.

A little known fact about the 5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes app, is that originally it was planned to be 5700+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes - however, they realized that wasn’t enough.  So they fought on, making sure to include drinks like the “Sailor Venus”, “I Love Rosa”, and even “Gorilla Fart #5″ (Beware of Gorilla Snot #2, it’s got a little bite to it).  For an alcoholic-on-the-go, this is the perfect app.  I really hope one of you makes it a goal to have try 1 new drink per day for the next 15 years and 11 months.  Yes, that’s how long it will take you to try each and every one of these at 1 per day.  The categories are broken into 11 easier-to-hunt-through section, and it even has a “Random Drink” setting.  Let me test it…. hang on a sec….  “Gotland Summer Night” = Gin, Cointreau, O.J., Grenadine.  Only 5799+ to go.  Enjoy, drink up, and drink responsibly.

I’ve actually been using OpenTable since their website launched, and I am very thankful for the App now.  What OpenTable does, is it allows you to book restaurant reservations directly on your iPhone.  You can search restaurants by area/price/type of food, etc.  You can make reservations for the current day or a future day, and it also gives you a small profile about each restaurant, in case you have never been there.  I have never once had a restaurant lose my reservation, when booked through OpenTable.  OpenTable is definitely a time-saver and is one App I consider a must have.
